The City of Fairfield is always looking to change and improve the city infrastructure and living environment.

The Fairfield Beautification Commission/Committee was set up to determine special projects that could be undertaken in the coming months and years. In association with other established groups and volunteers, the group is working to improve enforcement of existing municipal ordinances and find special ways to encourage residents and businesses to improve their properties to make them more attractive.

FPAC9 has taped a program featuring four leaders of the community to discuss ways in which Fairfield can grow and improve.

New: October 2003...

Part of the Fairfield plan to make the downtown area look more appealing has been to purchase and stock large planters and place them around the square.

Shown below are Carol Young and Nancy Horras replanting Evergreens for the fall and winter months.  This is a project of the Fairfield Beautification Commission.

The Fairfield Tree Enhancement Committee and the Fairfield Beautification Commission/Committee have worked together to propose and implement several projects to improve the Fairfield area.

In October 2003 two projects were undertaken:

Alliant Utilities project of tree and shrub plantings, Oct. 2003.

On West Burlington/HWY 34, in association with Alliant Utilities, a total of 33 trees and shubs are being installed by Oakwood Nursery of Fairfield.  The responsibility for the future maintenance will be with the local organizations.

The area covered is for the area between the sidewalk and the north fencing at the Alliant facility.

At the Fairfield Middle School back area in October 2003, students, parents, and other helpers planted a number of trees back behind where the softball fields are located.  Other mature trees were relocated to make way for expansion of the athletic fields.  Future generations fo students will enjoy these efforts in the years to come as the trees grow and flourish under the watchful eyes of students and staff.

On Monday December 15, 2003 two members of the Beautification Commission reported to the Fairfield City Council that all of the major goals set for 2003 had been met so far, and plans were being developed for continuing to beautify Fairfield.  More flower pots are being purchased, thanks to a grant from the Greater Jefferson County Foundation.
