When Parsons College closed the doors in June of 1973 many wondered what would become of the campus.  A year and a half later, September 9, 1974, the campus became the new home of Maharishi International University.  Followers of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi discovered Fairfield's open campus and felt that it would provide an opportunity for students and faculty to share in the quality of life that Iowa provides.  For those who practice the Transcendental Meditation program.

Renamed  Maharishi University of Management, M.U.M. today occupies 262 acres just north of Fairfield and continues to grow.  Degrees at the PhD, master's, and bachelor's levels are available, as well as associate and certificate programs.

The Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment (M.S.A.E.) provides schoolchildren with advanced educational opportunities and accreditation as well.  The schoolchildren have become recognized in Iowa and the nation for their academic skills
