Jefferson County Courthouse

The Jefferson County Courthouse was built in 1891. It is a 68' x 88' structure in the Romanesque style.

Jefferson County is represented by three elected Supervisors, who serve for 4 year terms, staggered.

The Supervisors conduct the business affairs of Jefferson County, and serve on many different boards, commissions, and committees as official and ex-officio officers.

In the Lockridge area, east of Fairfield, is the First Swedish Augustana Synod, organized in 1884. The New Sweden Lutheran congregation has services to this day. New Sweden was the first continuing Swedish settlement on American soil. A group led by Peter Cassell settled in Lockridge Township in 1845.
