Supervisors Say No to Election

The Jefferson County Board of Supervisors will not send the question of allowing a public-private partnership with the Fairfield Civic Center to a Vote. The supervisors voted this morning 2-1 against holding a special election that would let the unincorporated ares decide if the county should engage in an agreement with the City of Fairfield to assist the Civic Center. Supervisor Dick Reed said that he felt the right thing to do was to let the people decide. Supervisor Dimmit had another opinion, saying that no matter how you looked at it, it was a bailout, and while the projected revenues for the next 2 years looked promising, there was no guarantee on those revenues.

The City of Fairfield had voted last week to send the issue to the voters. With the supervisors not allowing the special election, the Fairfield Civic Center must now file a petition of 400 signatures from the county in order to proceed with the special election. No word yet from the Civic Center if they will pursue this course.
