The Fairfield City Council has authorized the use of the Waterworks Park reservoir to be used partially for public swimming purposes.

The reservoir was previously used for city water supply, but since a new well has been dug the reservoir is no longer needed for drinking purposes.

A special committee was formed to find uses for the area, and one of the most popular ideas was for a "swim-at-your-own-risk" swimming area.

Sand is currently being trucked in near the area where a 100 ft out swim area will be developed.

Projected opening date will be summer 2004.  Call City Hall at 641 472-6193 for exact information as to the opening date.
