Barhydt Chapel, built for Parsons College, remains an important part of Fairfield history.  There are many who remember the Chapel during the heyday of Parson's College and who have fond memories of the many musical and religious programs that took place there over the years.

Due to MUM plans to replace buildings with ones built according to the Sthapatya Veda architecture principles, Barhydt Chapel was demolished during the fall of 2001.  Important portions of the structure were saved as possible, with some perhaps being incorporated into the new Civic Center where they can be fit into.

FPAC9 has videotaped several shows about Barhydt Chapel and will cablecast them at a later time.  We interviewed John Connet about the pipe organ that he will be removing from the Chapel soon.  We toured the building with Suzan Kessel and Mark Shafer, pointing out the historical aspects of the building, preserving them on videotape for future generations to enjoy.

A special Decommissioning/Farewell Worship service was held April 5, 2001 for the Barhydt Chapel prior to demolition.  This was also an opportunity for those who were married there to repeat their vows!  FPAC9 videotaped this service.

Taking down fixtures at Barhydt Chapel, April 14, 2001. Various features from the inside were saved by those involved with various preservation groups.  Several pews were taken out, light fixtures taken down, and the shields from the support beams were saved.  Where possible, these items will be used in the new Civic Center.
